My first read about a transgender woman.
Snap Shot By V. L. Locey
Genre: Contemporary Romance, GLTBQ, Bi, Trans, Sports, Hockey
Released: April 4, 2017
Publisher: Self-Published
Series: Cayuga Cougars, Book 1
Mario McGarrity has been around the block – and rink – more than a few times.
He’s creeping up on retirement age, has some dings and dents, and says what’s on his mind. Not exactly what most would consider a luxury ride, but his beautiful Lila – the transgender woman who stole his heart – loves him like no other woman ever has despite a little rust here and there.
Everything is good – no, great – aside from the distance issue, until a surprise from Lila’s past crops up and moves in with her. Can Mario be the family man that Lila needs, or is this one game the old vet is unable to skate in?

My first read about a transgender woman.
I was introduced to V. L. Locey’s writing when I read a review copy of Changing Lines; the book she co-wrote with RJ Scott (whose work I was already very familiar with). I loved Changing Lines so I decided to give V. L. Locey’s books a try and Snap Shot is the first one I read.
I love reading series in order and Snap Shot is the first book in the Cayuga Cougars series. What I didn’t realize at the time is that the two MCs (main characters) were introduced in the Point Shot Trilogy series. While Snap Shot totally stands alone just fine, I really wish that I had read the Point Shot Trilogy first. (Note: at the time of this writing the Point Shot Trilogy boxed set is on sale for a fantastic price on Amazon.)
Snap Shot is about hockey player, Mario (Seamus) McGarrity and Madame Lila, a transgender woman he is in love with. I’ve never read a story about a transgender woman before so it was somewhat educational as well as a pleasurable reading experience. I definitely need to do a bit more reading so I can become more educated about transgender people.
Mario and Lila’s relationship is strained because of the distance between where they live. It becomes further strained when Lila’s teenage son comes to live with her. Mario has never wanted children and he doesn’t know how to Langley at first but he soon learns.
I enjoyed reading this story because it was something new to me. I also liked all of the characters and the emotions the story made me feel. I enjoyed Mario’s relationship with a young team member, August Miles, who is the MC of the next book in this series, Open Net which will be out August 16, 2017.
I will definitely be reading more books by V. L. Locey.

O Factor: Scorcher
V.L. Locey loves worn jeans, yoga, belly laughs, walking, reading and writing lusty tales, Greek mythology, the New York Rangers, comic books, and coffee. (Not necessarily in that order.) She shares her life with her husband, her daughter, one dog, two cats, a flock of assorted domestic fowl, and two Jersey steers.
When not writing spicy romances, she enjoys spending her day with her menagerie in the rolling hills of Pennsylvania with a cup of fresh java in hand. She can also be found online on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and GoodReads.
