An enjoyable start to a series
Rescued by a Highlander was the debut novel for Ms. Montclair. It has since been revised. By the time I came upon it, it had also been put into audio format. I have to tell you that the narrator, Mr. Antony Ferguson made it a very enjoyable experience. I do so love a narrator that is exceptional at producing first notch voices that gives the characters real life and personality. Of course, it doesn’t hurt when that actor does a great job at a Scottish brogue. Ummm, I so love a nice brogue. All that being said you have to have a good story to begin with. In the case of Rescued by a Highlander you have a very honorable Scottish Laird rescuing the step sister of a neighboring Laird when he witnesses the brutal abuse she is being subjected to.
Madeline has been brutalized and abused by her step brother since her parents deaths. Yet she remains innocent, sweet and obedient… well in all things except taking Laird Niles Cummings as a husband. Having already been raped by the brute with her brother’s permission, Maddie has no wish to saddle herself with such a foul and cruel husband. Things are heating up and becoming rather deadly when Maddie is rescued by Laird Alexander Grant. As gentle as Alex can appear he is also gruff and loud. Is it any wonder that Maddie thinks her only hope of salvation is a convent?
Laird Alexander Grant is the very definition of honorable. He stands for everything protective, honest, sincere and loving when it comes to the women in his life. Seeing the brutalized Lady Madeline goes against every teaching of his venerable parents. So when he receives a message requesting his interference on her behalf, Alex jumps in to rescue the lass. But now that he has rescued her, what’s he to do with her? On one hand she is the very definition of strength and on the other her experiences with men have left her untrusting and cringing in expectation of more brutality. Sometimes rescuing someone is a lot more involved than removing them from danger. And sometimes a man cannot help but fall in love along the way.
Rescued by a Highlander is a great beginning to the Clan Grant series. If you get a chance definitely consider purchasing the Whyspersync Audible version with the ebook for full enjoyment. I’ll warn you in advance that the Audible version does deviate slightly from the ebook version. All in all, though, the audio version is excellent. If you love a good historical Highlander romance with a bit of danger and intrigue in the mix you should enjoy Rescued by a Highlander.
