Reluctant at first, they soon find that this could be their only chance to save their careers, so they embark on a journey of lies, secrets, and trouble.

This is the first book I’ve read by Mark Summers and I enjoyed reading it; it’s a solid 3.5 stars for me. Fakers is one of the few M/M romance stories I’ve read that I’d rate as a spicy read rather than a scorcher. There was sexual tension between the 2 MCs (main characters) who both start out the story as straight, but only one scene that contained any sex at all and that was pretty mild.
Aiden and Noah are the stars of a TV show that is close to being canceled after its second season. Their manager comes up with a scheme for generating publicity to help save the show for a third season. All Aiden and Noah have to do is pretend to be a couple. While they are both somewhat horrified at first, they agree to do it to save their livelihood. During the course of their charade things happen and the two become closer.
As well as the drama and need to save their TV show both MCs have things going on in their lives that help to make this story interesting. Noah has recently broken up with the girl he’s been with since before both of them were teenagers. While his ex-girlfriend initiated the breakup, she later decides they should get back together which creates a fuss because by that point Noah has begun to realize he has feelings for Aiden.
Aiden left a bad home life several years ago to become an actor. He left behind two younger brothers and a horrible mother. His mother is only interested in his money and expects him to completely support her. He hasn’t seen his two brothers since he left. When one of his brothers appears on his doorstep he realizes that he has to do something to help them.
Fakers appears to be Mark Summer’s first published fiction and based on that I think he shows promise as an author in this genre. While I read a lot of books, and currently seem to be hooked on M/M stories, I’m not really familiar with what sells the most in this genre. I know that in M/F romances there seems to be a market for stories that are more on the sweet side, without a lot of explicit sex; perhaps that market also exists for M/M stories. I enjoy everything from sweet to smut and kind of found it refreshing to read an M/M story that wasn’t all about the sex.
