Synopsis

Laura Rockford needs that big break that will move her journalism career from fluff pieces to serious news. When she stumbles across a bizarre murder scene in downtown Vegas, she finally gets her chance. Even more so when her older brother spills the beans that could implicate a video game programming genius. For once in her career Laura has a lead that the police don’t know about. She flings herself head-first into digging up everything she can to break the case, oblivious to any personal danger in confronting a possible killer. After all, how hard can it be to wheedle information out of a geeky reclusive computer nerd?

Mike McQuaid is anything but geeky–unless you consider a ruggedly handsome face and a sexy as hell male model body with a computer genius brain geeky. But he is reclusive – he has to be because he has a deep, dark secret and he can’t let anyone get close enough to discover it. Not even the hot little journalist that shows up at his penthouse begging for an interview.

With the body count rising and Laura and Mike’s attraction sizzling out of control, Laura does what any good journalist would do. She digs in even deeper. But she soon discovers that some secrets should stay buried and trusting the wrong person could have consequences much more deadly than just losing her heart.

The RPG world just became deadly

Being somewhat of a computer geek myself and a former MMORPG player and game tester, Fatal Games held quite a bit of appeal for me.  And let me tell you from experience there are some really hot geeky men out there.  Personally, I think there is nothing hotter than a hot alpha man that not only has the looks but also the brains to go with them.  I’d definitely put Mike McQuade in the running for meeting all those qualifications.  He may be a bit reclusive but he’s definitely not shy.  When deaths start piling up that seem to be related to his Vegas Noir game it puts journalist, Laura Rockford on his tail.  Imagine her surprise when Mike doesn’t quite meet her geeky expectations.  Rather, he far surpasses them!
Laura is the odd man out in her rather large and boisterous family.  While the rest of the family pursues careers in the family security business, Laura aspires to be a crack reporter.  Unfortunately, she hasn’t quite paid her dues yet and paying her dues usually amounts to human interest stories buried in the back pages of the paper.  When she spies a recent murder at a hotel she is passing, Laura can’t help but put her very curious nose into the mix.  She sees an opportunity to break out of the mold she has been cast in and she’ll do anything to see that she succeeds in getting the story, including posing as a video journalist writing about gaming to get an interview with the game developer.  When the chemistry between Laura and Mike skyrockets she’s put in a bit of a quandary… prove him innocent so she can pursue a relationship or admit that her normally unfailing instincts have taken a nosedive.  But everything in her is telling her that Mike isn’t the serial killer.
Mike’s family isn’t so close knit and definitely not as boisterous, but he has the protective big brother gig down pat.  There isn’t anything he wouldn’t do to protect his little sister.  With the success of Vegas Noir, Mike went on to build his gaming company and create more games.  It hasn’t been a totally smooth ride to success.  He’s had his losses along the way.  He’s dealt with one too many obsessed fans.  Now he’s fighting to keep the fingers from pointing his way when someone starts mimicking scenes from his game in their killing spree.  Then there is the potentially pesky reporter… the one he can’t seem to avoid or keep his mind and his hands off.  After years of avoiding anything other than a quick hook up, Mike finds himself wanting a committed relationship with the savvy reporter, as long as he can his past from rearing its head.
The tension mounts as the murders escalate putting Laura in the crosshairs.  The heat rises just as quickly.  Fatal Games has its go to suspects that will have you doing the guessing game.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  If you’re looking for that geeky hero who is a total winner you’ll find him in Fatal Games with enough romantic suspense to keep you quickly turning the pages.  The Rockford Security series is amping up the expectations because they just keep getting better.
