I broke the rules and fell in love with my best friend. Newsflash—he didn’t feel the same. I had to stand by and watch him fall for someone else. Moving on hasn’t been easy since we all live and work on the same high country sheep station, but I’m finally getting there.
I’m building a new life, a new set of dreams, planning a different future, just me and my dogs. The last thing I need is Luke Nichols, the sexy, enigmatic, ex-husband of my nemesis, filling my head with a laundry list of cravings. Talk about complicated.
Luke is only in Mackenzie Country for a few months and I’m not about to put my heart on the line again just for a little fun. But the more I’m around Luke, the harder it is to remember exactly why Luke and I are a bad idea, the worst idea.
Things between us are about to go nuclear.
Maybe I’m wrong.
Maybe we can keep it simple.
Maybe I can satisfy my cravings and hold on to my heart.
And maybe pigs can fly.
Note: This story contains references to the past loss of a child.

I’m loving this series!
Once again, Jay Hogan has written a story that is so richly descriptive of the location where it is set that I’m ready to pack my bags and go for a visit. This book is about 110,000 words long but it didn’t feel like it was that long. Her writing flows so well that it felt like a much shorter book – and I mean that as a sincere compliment. The sweet spot for me is a book that’s under 75,000 words but Jay’s books are usually longer and yet the writing flows so well that it never feels like the story has unnecessary filler like some long books do.
Book one in this series was such an emotional read that I wasn’t sure my heart could take any more. But I trust Jay Hogan and she didn’t let me down with The Mechanics of Lust. While I think you might enjoy this story a bit more if you read book one first, it does standalone very well.
Zach left his home station when he came out to his family and his homophobic father went ballistic. He’s living and working on his best friend’s sheep station while he decides on his future. He didn’t plan on the attraction he felt for Luke.
Luke has been trying to get Zach interested in him ever since they met a year ago. Zach is the first man he’s been truly interested since his marriage broke up. It’s complicated because Zach’s best friend is Luke’s ex-husband’s new love.
In the first book Luke was kind of the character we were supposed to not like but there were reasons for his behavior. I love it when a character gets redemption and Luke is indeed explained and redeemed in The Mechanics of Lust.
The sexy time in this story is off-the-charts hot. The chemistry between Luke and Zach was palpable and practically radiated off the pages. I loved the epilogue that let us know where Luke and Zach were in their relationship several months in the future.
Zach’s family had a large role in this story, especially his brother, Jules, and I really hope the next book is about him.
