Special Agent Leo Reeves is new to the FBI’s L.A. field office. His career has been on track since the day he joined the bureau. He loves his job as a profiler and being assigned to a new team in one of the busiest offices in the nation will be the opportunity of a lifetime…if he can put the past behind him. The face Leo shows the world is strong, focused, dependable, and capable. The long list of citations in his file only serve to prove how good he is.
If he could only forget he was sired by a monster.
Former Marine Staff Sergeant, Max Prince, leads by example. Whether it means protecting men in battle, working for the US Marshal service, or being the best damn field agent the FBI has ever seen, he brings a special kind of bravery to the job. His teammates depend on his ready smiles, his funny jokes, and know him as the excellent agent he’s proven to be. They never see the man who buried his heart eight years ago.
The last thing he wants is to fall for the new guy.
When a serial killer suddenly starts targeting innocents, both men have trouble pinning down who they’re dealing with. With victimology all over the place, Leo can’t make sense of a profile, and Max simply wants to put the bastard away before he murders anyone else. The case is maddening but worse, the attraction the two men find every time they look at each other, is beginning to get in the way.

Captivating!
This is a thrilling story with a bit of insta-love between the two MCs, Leo Reeves and Max Prince. Michael Dean did such a fantastic job performing this suspenseful story. I understand that some of the secondary characters in this book appeared in the Death and Destruction series but you don’t need to have read them to enjoy this book. I have those in my Audible library, but I haven’t made time to listen to them yet. I am now moving them up higher on my TBR/L list! 😊
The sexy time between Leo and Max is HOT AF 🔥🔥🔥, almost to the point of it interfering with their jobs. Max is still grieving a major loss from 8 years ago and never expected to fall for the new guy on the team. Leo is the new guy and he also has secrets.
I enjoyed listening to this story so much. There is no cliffhanger, and a HFN ending, but we will be hearing more from Leo and Max in upcoming books in this series and I’m looking forward to them.
I almost forgot to say that there is a great teaser for the next book at the end of this so be sure to listen to it.

“You’re the profiler. We’re probably all on the same page in thinking this guy isn’t nearly done with his kills, but I want to hear from you. What insights do you have to offer, if any?”Leo swallowed hard. He knew he’d be put on the spot sooner or later, so he took a deep breath and let it out slowly, only starting to talk after he finished.
“He’s organized. He not only brought the victim and the witness with him to a place where he knew he’d have time, but he also brought the weapon. This wasn’t all done with fists. He took the weapon with him when he left and probably changed clothes, taking the bloody ones with him. It took extensive planning on his part to carry out what he needed to do here.”
“What he needed to do?” Prince asked.
Leo nodded at the frowning man who was sitting forward now and paying close attention to what he was saying.
“The killer is a sexual sadist. He may have sexually violated the victim as well as the witness but it’s most likely not necessary for his fantasy. The mere beating and murder are enough to get this guy off. The violence itself completes his fantasy. His thoughts are consumed with his next kill, night and day. It’s all he thinks about…beating someone to death. That, and the fact that he wanted and needed a witness to what he was doing to the victim. He left the witness alive because he’d served his purpose. This was a deliberate act.”
