A great start for this series; I loved it!

I’ve been a huge fan of Annabeth Albert’s books for several years now. I’ve read nearly everything she’s written. When I got information about this new series from Heart Eyes Press, I knew that I had to read the Vino and Veritas books.

Featherbed is the first book in the series and it does a fantastic job of setting the scene for future books. Vino and Veritas is a new bookstore and wine bar in Burlington, Vermont and its owner wants it to be inclusive and welcoming to all. Harrison is also helping his mother to fulfill one of her dreams. A former librarian, she has always wanted to own a bookstore.

Finn is a local organic farmer and a delivery of his special chickens we left at the bookstore by mistake. His first impression of Harrison is that he’s a city slicker come to play awhile in Vermont; he doesn’t believe that Harrison will be around for more than one winter.

I loved the slow-burn feel of this story. Both MCs have their reasons for not wanting a serious relationship so they form a friends-with-benefits one. The more time they spend together, the more Finn begins to realize that he was wrong about Harrison; now if he can just get Harrison to believe that they can have a more serious relationship.

Both MCs are very caring of their families. Finn runs his family’s farm business with help from his mother and sisters. Harrison is an only child and he is devoted to his mother. The warmth and love of family are very much a part of this story and that made my heart happy.

It wouldn’t be an Annabeth Albert book if I didn’t shed at least a few tears, so of course, I did. I loved that this was a pretty low-angst story with not a lot of conflict. Of course, there has to be some to keep things interesting but the issue was resolved fairly quickly. There was also a fair amount of witty banter and innuendo between Finn and Harrison which I really enjoyed.

Featherbed briefly introduced us to Tanner, who is one of the MCs of the next book, Heartscape by Garrett Leigh, but I believe that each of the books will stand alone, too. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
