I enjoyed reading this one.
Burning Fall is the first novella I’ve read by EJ Smyth. I read a short story and loved it so I wanted to give a longer story a try and I enjoyed this very much.
It’s a great opposites-attract story. Damien’s introduction to Yannik doesn’t go too well. Yannik is late for their appointment and Damien doesn’t feel like he’s dressed appropriately for a meeting in an office. After that rocky introduction they finally settle down to work together on a project and can’t ignore the attraction they feel for each other. Their relationship has several ups and downs but the story wasn’t overly angsty
I enjoyed that this story was set in Germany, where the author lives. The author’s description of the various locations in the book were great. I’ll admit to being just a tad overwhelmed by all of the German names, and wishing I knew how to pronounce them, but it didn’t really diminish my overall enjoyment of the book. I really enjoy learning about new places and I suspect that I won’t be so overwhelmed (that’s probably too strong of a term) when I read the next in the series.
While Burning Fall is the first in the Frankfurt Hot Seasons series there is no cliffhanger and I suspect that each of the stories are going to standalone. I’m looking forward to reading the next book.

Hi there! My name is EJ Smyth, I live in Frankfurt, Germany and I’m passionate about romance. Not luffy-duffy romance, but stories with other elements mixed in. Paranormal romance, romantic thrillers, gay romance, if it’s got two difficult characters finding each other, I’m on board!
I write at my living room table, usually covered with folded laundry because I couldn’t be bothered to tidy before sitting down. And my kids are teenagers, so not much help there either . I do love having them around and I’ve gotten used to writing with a background noise of Grand Theft Auto and teenage histrionics. Maybe that’s why I prefer writing action scenes over descriptive settings! Except for the 18+ scenes which I have to write in a separate room, because, well, embarrassing…
I’m currently working on a series of short stories Keith is Awesome about a young man exploring his sexuality. Not something I’ve ever written before but the research alone was quite a bit of fun Check out my Pinterest account to see my inspiration. I love to talk to my readers, online and offline, so please feel free to drop me a line!
