When a homeless young omega comes by Burke’s pub asking for work, Burke doesn’t have the heart to send him away. He lets the boy help with some chores in exchange for food, and soon, Emerson’s visits become regular. Then one frosty December night, the boy keeps his head down, hiding in a corner until closing time and looking like he wants to disappear into the ground. Emerson is about to go into heat, and he has nowhere to hide.
People say Burke is ugly and scary, but Emerson has never been afraid of the burly pub owner. The big alpha has scars down the side of his face, but so what? He must have been in a lot of pain once, poor man. When snow covers Dalton City, and Emerson realizes he’s only days away from his first heat, his feet carry him to the pub by themselves. Burke is the only alpha Emerson trusts not to hurt him. And given the choice between freezing to death or getting abused, Emerson would much rather offer himself to Burke.
Except Burke is probably the nicest man in the entire city. Stunned, Emerson finds himself safe and warm during the snowstorm, without having to sacrifice anything. Maybe he’s even a little bit in love with his rescuer.
This omegaverse romance is a winter comfort read that requires a fluffy blanket, hot chocolate, and an assortment of muffins. A homeless omega boy, his not-at-all-ugly rescuer, a winter snowstorm, and of course a HEA.
Potential triggers:
Sexual assault and suicide are briefly mentioned, which could be triggering to some readers.

Awesome story!! ❤
I’ve been a huge fan of Roe Horvat’s writing since I read my first book nearly 3 years ago. He writes in a variety of genres but most recently he’s been writing erotic stories, including omegaverse, and I love them all.
Emmerson is young and homeless. Burke helps him out by letting him take out the trash from his bar in exchange for food over a period of several months. When Emmerson knows that his first heat is about to happen, he offers himself to Burke so he doesn’t freeze to death outside.
This story is full of feels. Emmerson is so young and defenseless that Burke can’t do anything else but help him. Burke tries his best to ignore his body’s urges when he smells Emmerson’s heat but eventually Emmerson begs him for relief and he can no longer resist.
I loved how these two took care of each other. Burke bought toys and other supplies to help Emmerson during his heat but Emmerson also took care of Burke when he got sick. This is definitely an erotic romance with lots of dirty talk and descriptive sex but it’s also about the developing relationship and love between a lost and homeless omega and a lonely, scarred alpha.
There were a couple of secondary characters in this book that I think could be worthy of their own book. I hope Roe Horvat continues to write stories in this world.
I almost forgot…I loved the epilogue that takes place about two years later. I enjoyed getting a glimpse at how Emmerson and Burke are doing after they got their HEA.
