Fantastic story, fantastic audio performance!!
Once again, Michael Dean has done a fantastic job performing words that Elle Keaton has written. I loved how he interpreted this fantastic story. I read this book recently and yet I was totally captivated all over again when I listened to the audiobook.
Below is what I wrote after reading the ebook; I can’t think of anything more to say other than the comments I made about Michael Dean’s performance.
Real Danger has all of the things that I’ve come to expect in Elle Keaton’s romantic suspense stories: a great romance between two hot guys, excitement, danger and murder.
Ryder is about 15 years younger than Shay but he knows what he wants and he’s been in love with Shay for quite a while now. He’s been wearing Shay down bit-by-bit over the last several months with unexpected visits and texting and teasing.
Shay doesn’t do relationships and he especially doesn’t do them with guys 15 years younger than him. He’s nearly retired from his law practice in Seattle and is enjoying spending his time on Piedras. But when a friend asks him for help, he can’t turn him down. As Ryder happens to be visiting when the request comes in, Shay brings him along while he investigates.
Things don’t go quite as expected and Shay and Ryder end up in real danger – they just don’t know who is after them. Their investigation leads to things they didn’t expect and Shay ends up in peril. Ryder’s intuition tells him that something is wrong and he’s determined to save Shay.
Like all of Elle’s romantic suspense books, Real Danger kept me on the edge of my seat for nearly the entire story. When they aren’t investigating or being chased, Ryder manages to wear Shay down and they have some quality time between the sheets and in a hot tub. 😊
I really can’t say enough good things about this story; Elle Keaton remains one of my favorite MM romantic suspense writers. Fans of her Veiled Intentions and Shielded Hearts series will enjoy seeing familiar characters in this book and series but you don’t need to have read the earlier series enjoy this one. I was so happy to learn that the next book in the West Coast Forensics series, Real Risk, will be releasing in late April 2022; I can’t wait!!

“Well?” Shay prompted.
Oh, right. Why was he here?
“I couldn’t find anywhere else to stay, but luckily this place had a last-minute cancellation.”
“No, Ryder,” Shay said, his grin wide and knowing. “I mean on Piedras. There’s no way you can convince me that whatever files you had for Niall couldn’t have been sent by courier.”
Ryder cocked his head. “What if I wanted to be the courier?” Okay, whatever, Shay was on to him, and he supposed there was no point in trying to fool him. “Fine. I wanted to see you. Is that so bad? But in my defense, I don’t trust the postal system any more than Niall does.”
Shay drew in a deep breath. “Ryder, we’ve talked about this.”
“You have told me I’m too young for you—which implies you are attracted to me, just pointing that out. I personally don’t have a problem with an age difference. I enjoy a partner with more life experience. But anyway, I don’t think I can emphasize enough my distrust of US mail. The last thing I need is to send something out and have it delivered seventy-five years later, like that postcard I read about last week. What exactly have we already talked about? I feel like it was more you informing me and expecting me to just agree with you.” Now the drinks were making him feisty. There was a spark between them, and Ryder wasn’t the only one who felt it. Why was Shay so frustrating, so determined not to see Ryder as an adult man who found Shay interesting, attractive, and smart enough to keep up with Ryder’s wacky brain?
“Fifteen years is a lifetime.”
“I feel like you are incredibly fixated on a number.” Ryder slumped back in his seat, picked up his drink, and swallowed the last drops. The waiter must have had his attention on their table, because he was beside them in seconds, and even though he knew he shouldn’t, Ryder ordered a third. He wasn’t driving, and it was his birthday month.
