Unashamedly Us is the fourth book in the Offbeat Shifters series. This series really needs to be read in order but Austin and Charlie’s story starts in book three so you could start there if you want to. You’d be missing a lot of background information and great story from books one and two, though, so I really recommend reading all of the books.

While I’m not overly fond of books with big age-gaps, this one-and book 3, really worked for me. Part of the reason for that is the mention of the age-gap wasn’t beat to death. It was brought up a few times but not in an “oh, we shouldn’t do this” kind of way. Charlie and Austin’s bond was eventually accepted by everyone who matters to them.

I enjoyed following Austin and Charlie as their relationship continued to develop. Austin had to learn to let go of past hurts and trust that he and Charlie really could have the relationship they want, regardless of how Charlie’s fans felt about it.

They have to go through a 3-month separation while Charlie is on tour and Charlie learns he must put his health first, even if it means disappointing people along the way. After all of the things these two go through with each other and Charlie’s family, they really deserve the HEA that Colette Davison gave them.

I truly appreciated the final chapter that gives us a glimpse into Charlie and Austin’s life a couple of years down the road. There have been some excellent secondary characters in this series and I look forward to reading about them if Colette decides to write more books in this world.

“I’m feeling needy.” I walked up to him, pulling him close and kissing him while savouring his touch and taste.

“Me too.” Charlie smiled and then leant against my body. He stroked my back and breathed in deeply, his chest expanding against mine.

“What are you doing?”

“Memorising your scent.”

I kissed his hair and then inhaled so I could do the same. Charlie’s scent was very distinctive—toffee apples and crisp autumn mornings. My heart squeezed tight at the realisation that I wouldn’t get to hold, kiss, or be in the same room as Charlie for three months.

Staying behind and keeping our relationship secret, for now, was the right decision. Charlie didn’t need any stress on top of the rigours of touring. It didn’t matter that his schedule was more relaxed than most singers enjoyed; the demands of performing two-hour sets were exhausting. Worrying about the media gossiping about us was the last thing he needed. Or maybe it was the last thing I needed, and Charlie was an easy scapegoat for my fear.

But the media and Charlie’s fans would gossip the moment they found out we were a couple. I was nineteen years older than him, and we were both omegas.

Charlie slipped his hands underneath my shirt and started to walk me backwards, kissing me.

“This is nice,” I said during a brief break between kisses.

“I’m saying goodbye,” Charlie whispered as he tipped us both onto the sofa.

“Didn’t we do that this morning?”

“Uh-huh.” He pushed my shirt up and pressed kisses to my chest.

“And last night?”

“Yes, but I want to say it again.” He looked up at me. “I’m really gonna miss you.” He undid my belt. “I need to feel your skin against mine one last time before I go.”
