Series: Lancaster Falls Trilogy, Book 3

Federal Agent Lucas Beaumont has an agenda — get himself assigned to the case of the apparent serial murders at Lancaster Falls, find out who the murderer is, and then lay the ghosts that haunt his grandfather to rest. In the midst of a horrific murder investigation, the only peace he gets is from simple moments in a warm kitchen, talking to hotel owner, Josh. Attraction to the easygoing man is something he didn’t expect; in doing so, he opens himself to hurt, but at the same time, he begins to fall in love.
Josh is struggling to keep the Falls Hotel, even with every cent he has invested in its upkeep. The one thing keeping him above water is the not entirely legal work he does on the side—a steady income that not even his son knows about. When the FBI takes over his hotel for the duration of the Hell’s Gate serial killer case, Josh is faced with the real possibility that Lucas will not only discover his secret but also steal his heart.
When tragedy hits Josh and his son, and when it seems all hope is lost, can Lucas rescue them both?

A stunning conclusion to a great series.
Before I start my review, I have to say that I think this series showcases some of RJ Scott’s best writing. It’s a bit more intense and different from her other books, and you do need to read them in order, but OMG I think the writing and attention to detail and how deviously twisty the stories have been is magnificent.
This book finally wraps up all of the loose ends from books one and two while introducing a new MC, Lucas, an FBI agent who has a personal interest in what’s been discovered in Lancaster Falls. Josh is the owner of the Falls Hotel and Lucas ends up making it the FBI’s base of operation, taking over all of the rooms in the hotel.
Josh and Lucas grow close but Josh has a secret that may sorely impact his budding relationship with Lucas – I never saw this coming from anything I remember reading in the first two books. There is so much going on in this story that my brain may have exploded just a bit (in a good way) and it certainly kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I read it.
All That Remains is a bit on the gory side (it didn’t bother me) and I only mention it to alert readers that there are more shocking bits than I’m used to in an RJ Scott book. Don’t get me wrong, this is not a bad thing at all – I repeat I think this series is one of her best.
While I had my suspicions about who the bad guy was at about the 60% mark it absolutely wasn’t because of anything that RJ gave away in her writing. It was strictly a WAG (wild ass guess) on my part. Even with this suspicion I was still blown away when things started coming to a stunning conclusion.
If I have one tiny criticism it would be that I would have liked a bit more – but I always want more when it’s a book I love. 😊 The epilogue was fantastic but I guess I felt kind of invested in the town and wanted to know more about the after effects of all that went down. I would love to read a short story about all three couples and how the town is doing a year or so down the road.
