A good start to a new series.

Darcy is a boyfriend for hire, a job that he enjoys doing after an injury ends his career as a soldier. He’s been a boyfriend to men and women but he’s never had to resist the brother of one of his jobs before.

Adrian has had more than his share of heartbreak but he can’t seem to resist the boyfriend his sister hired even though he’s afraid Darcy will not return his feelings.

I’m always puzzled when I don’t love a book by a favorite author and usually I figure it has something to do with me and the mood I’m in at the time I read it. But this time I’m not sure why Darcy didn’t click with me. Don’t get me wrong, I liked reading it, I just didn’t love it the way I usually do a book by RJ Scott.

Things happened quickly in this story but most of it was about Darcy doing his job as a boyfriend for Adrian’s sister. We didn’t really get to find out much about Adrian’s background and we didn’t really get too much time with Darcy and Adrian as a couple.

Usually I enjoy a novella length book, and I think RJ is a master at that length of story, but this time it just didn’t work as well as usual.

I’ll continue with the series because if RJ writes it I will read it. I’m also looking forward to learning more about the agency Darcy works for and his friend Rowan who sure sounds like he needs to have a story for himself.

Darcy is the first book in a new series but reads as a standalone with no cliffhanger.
