What a great series!
I’ve read a lot of books by RJ Scott in the last year or so since I discovered her writing. She has a huge backlist and I was a bit intimidated to start the Sanctuary series simply because there were already so many books out. Due to the recent release of book 10 – By The Numbers, the final one in the series – I decided to start from the beginning and read all of the books, one right after the other, and I’m so glad that I did. The list turned out to not be so intimidating once I started. Most of the books are under 156 pages – the perfect length for me to read one in a day and sometimes I finished two.
While each book in the series resolves the romance between the main couple, the mystery and suspense that carries throughout books 1-7 isn’t resolved completely until the end of book 7. Books 8-10 concentrate on the Chicago operations of Sanctuary. Like books 1-7, the underlying mystery isn’t solved until the end of the final story – book 10.
To review each individual book here would be too much so I’m going to give you a quick overview of the series. If you click on the series title above you will be taken to RJ’s website where you can read the synopsis/blurb for each of the individual books.
Sanctuary is one of the most suspenseful romance series I’ve ever read. The plot from book to book is intricate and I didn’t really guess who most of the bad guys were until it was revealed in the story – especially the biggest bad guy of them all.
I think my favorite book is #6, The Journal of Sanctuary One. This is the story for Sanctuary’s owner, Jake Callahan. Jake’s love interest came as a bit of a surprise and this ended up being a friends-to-enemies-to-lovers story that I couldn’t put down.
The chemistry between the couples featured in each story is pretty hot, some books were spicy while others were scorchers. Of course, there are many obstacles that must be overcome before they get their HEAs. I will miss the diverse characters of Sanctuary and I’m sorry to see the series end. My review for book 10, By The Numbers, will be posted to this website on June 2, 2017.
