Synopsis

In exchange for a vial of dragon’s blood to save her brother’s life, Melanie Hall offers herself up as a sacrifice to one of the British dragon-shifter clans. Being a sacrifice means signing a contract to live with the dragon-shifters for six months to try to conceive a child. Her assigned dragonman, however, is anything but easy. He’s tall, broody, and alpha to the core. There’s only one problem–he hates humans.

Due to human dragon hunters killing his mother, Tristan MacLeod despises humans. Unfortunately, his clan is in desperate need of offspring to repopulate their numbers and it’s his turn to service a human female. Despite his plans to have sex with her and walk away, his inner dragon has other ideas. The curvy human female tempts his inner beast like no other.

NOTE: This is the entire first story arc of the Stonefire Dragons (Parts #1-4), complete with a HEA and no cliffhangers.

Great start to the Stonefire Dragons series.

I’ve had this one in my ‘tbr’ pile begging to be read for a while now. Finally, it wriggled its way up and I cracked the cover… err opened the file I will admit to being motivated to move it up to the top of the pile. One, I was craving a dragon shifter tale. My fascination with dragons is something that has followed me from early childhood. Two, I discovered that Ms. Donovan uses Matthew Lloyd Davies to narrate the audible versions in this series. While I didn’t have the audible version of this one, I figured I could see what I thought and purchase the audible version for subsequent books in the series. I’m really glad I decided to move this one to the top of my list because I really enjoyed it.

The title Sacrificed to the Dragon brings connotations of villagers chaining the poor maiden to a stake and leaving her for the dragon as fodder in a pagan rite. I positively loved Ms. Donovan’s spin on the sacrifice angle. And lest you think the risk is not so steep for these heroine’s think again. Pregnancy with a shifter’s child is life threatening. For any human to choose to become a sacrifice things must be either very desperate or she must really be in love.

In the case of Melanie Hall, desperation is her motivation. After fighting and winning his bout with cancer, Mel’s teenage brother is now suffering from an immune deficiency that is slowly killing him. His only hope is the much sought after vial of dragon’s blood that comes with sacrificing to the dragons. While there is definitely risk involved with a possible pregnancy, this sacrifice has its benefits as well for a scholar with a Ph.D. in dragon studies. What better way to work on a thesis topic than to live with the dragons themselves? The only problem… her dragon mate, Tristan hates humans.

The last thing Tristan wants to do is take a human as mate… even temporarily. But when his clan leader puts an ultimatum before him he has little choice in the matter and really it’s not as if the little human doesn’t stir his amorous side. The one thing Tristan didn’t expect was to find himself falling head over heels for his very stubborn and compassionate mate. This cold and aloof male has met his match.

Sacrificed to the Dragon was not only a hot and steamy read but it offered danger and intrigue to boot. Needless to say, I had absolutely no problem moving Seducing the Dragon to the top of my pile as I finished this first in the Stonefire Dragons series. If you love dragons as much as I do, you’re going to love this series.

About Jessie Donovan

Jessie Donovan

Jessie Donovan wrote her first story at age five, and after discovering the Dragonriders of Pernseries by Anne McCaffrey in junior high, realized that people actually wanted to read stories like those floating around inside her head. From there on out, she was determined to tap into her over-active imagination and write a book someday.

After living abroad for five years and earning degrees in Japanese, Anthropology, and Secondary Education, she buckled down and finally wrote her first full-length book. While that story will never see the light of day, it laid the world-building groundwork of what would become her debut paranormal romance, Blaze of Secrets. In late 2014, she officially became a New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author.
Jessie loves to interact with readers. When not reading or traipsing around some foreign country on a shoestring, she can often be found on Facebook.
