A Fantastic Debut!

S.J. Lynn’s debut novel, Through The Fog, is not my usual type of read, but there’s something to be said for changing it up every now and then. This story grabbed hold of me and I couldn’t put it down. And the more I read, the more intrigued I became as to where it was taking me. What I thought was merely a contemporary romance, turned into an intriguing mystery with the classic feel of Jane Eyre. Ms. Lynn not only has a beautiful voice and a graceful style, she knows how to write a good story.

Adalind Carter is nothing less than professional. To the point, she’s let her career as a nurse take over her life. When her boss/mentor pushes her to take an emergency job as a private nurse to a Duke in England, Adalind is reluctantly wrenched out of her element. With no time to do any research on this Duke, Adalind is quite shocked to see he’s the opposite of the old curmudgeon she expected. In fact, he’s not only young, he’s pretty damn hot. He’s also missing a big chunk of his memory since his accident. As Adalind-the-nurse helps Evan recover from his injuries, Adalind-the-woman begins to fall for this enigmatic man. And the attraction is mutual. Who’d have thought physical therapy in a swimming pool could be so sexy! There’s an aura of sadness, loneliness, and heartache about the Duke but the reasons seem to have gone missing with his memories. As their quest for the truth about Evan’s accident begins to reveal shocking information, things take a turn for the dangerous.

Despite being from totally different worlds, Adalind and Evan are a perfect match. She’s spunky, intelligent, and thoroughly lovable. He’s charming, sexy, and has a vulnerability that makes you want to cuddle him up. And then do nasty things to him. Through The Fog is a refreshingly different story full of twisty turny goodness as well as great secondary characters. It’s apparent that much love and care was taken in the writing of this fab debut novel.
