Josephine Walker:
My carefully constructed, picture perfect life is crumbling around me. For the first time in fifteen years, I don’t know who I want to be.
I need to find me.
I’m done playing it safe, done caring what others think. I want wild and crazy. And, as much as I try to ignore it, I want Matt to see me as more than just his best friend.
Matty Murphy:
The Bastards live in a world most don’t understand. We follow our own rules, only accountable to each other, the innocents we protect, and the people we couldn’t save. Each of us wears a mask, hiding behind a polite smile and a respectable job, covering the monsters inside. I made peace with who I was a long time ago. I have no regrets.
Except one.
Jo Walker. I’m not letting her go without a fight.

Not your normal brand of MC.
When I first started reading Laying It Down I was forty-two pages into the book and asking… Where are the bikers and MC? To top it all off the two main characters were both in relationships with other people. Jo, the heroine was married and Matty was very much engaged. I have to tell you I was really questioning where this story was going. Like the typical romance reader, I didn’t really want to read about a heroine or hero that was a cheater. Thank goodness I stuck with things. Because Jo and Matty’s relationship was anything but.
Jo Walker met her husband Will while touring their college at the end of her junior year in high school. The two of them were the perfect couple throughout college with nary a fight or any drama. That is until Will confesses that he’s been unfaithful. With his promises to never do it again, Jo forgives him and they’re married. Over ten years and two children later, the kids are off with their grandparents for the summer and Jo is living in a hotel. She hasn’t even told her best friend and co-worker Matty what is going on. Life hasn’t been the picture perfect she always thought it would be. Will is indifferent and demeaning. Now he’s confessed he’s having an affair with his co-worker and loves her. And then he has the audacity to want to talk it all out and make it work. Is it any wonder that after a few drinks too many, a bit of soul searching and looking at the man she considers her best friend in a new light that she realizes that she has always loved Matty and perhaps not just as a BFF.
Matthew “Matty” Murphy known at the local social services office as “biker boy” resented being partnered with Josephine Walker. She irritated the living daylights out of him and he couldn’t get her out of his mind. That’s about the time that his club prez told him to take his blinders off. Matty has been in love with Jo ever since. She’s his best friend and his forever soul mate. She’s also off limits. Knowing she’s always been his doesn’t mean he lives the life of a celibate monk. After all, his club didn’t nickname him “Mateo” for nothing. Matty is god’s gift to women… at least he used to be in his younger years. He’s still got the looks and he positively oozes the charm but these days he’s off limits to the club whores. He loves one woman and will until the day he dies but that doesn’t stop him from trying to find second best and making the best of things. When Matty finds out Jo is holding up at the local hotel and separated from her jerk of a husband, he still doesn’t jump at his once in a lifetime chance at forever. While Jo and their co-workers know he rides a bike they have no clue he’s in an MC. That’s one side of his life he’s kept hidden for years. Now the fear of Jo walking away if she finds out has him keeping her at a distance. But Jo’s no longer letting him put the blocks up and Matty isn’t strong enough to walk away.
Laying It Down wasn’t what I was expecting in an MC romance. The first book in the boxed set, Always Been Mine doesn’t really contain much if any MC in it at all. You get to meet a few of his club members when Jo and Matty take a ride on his bike but that’s about it until the very end. The rest is just a bit of Matty’s angst at Jo finding things out. It’s not until the second in the series, Honey Whiskey that you get a good taste of the Bastards MC. It’s also in the second book that the two of them resolve so many of their issues. The second book also is filled with the suspense and violence you typically expect in an MC romance. I’m so glad I stuck with this boxed set when I wasn’t seeing the stereotypical MC I was looking for in the beginning. I’m also glad I got it as a boxed set. I think this is one series you definitely want to read in order and together. So if you are looking for a great roller coaster ride for your emotions and an MC that’s just a bit different from the norm, Lay It Down: The Bastard MC Series Box Set will deliver.

Carina Adams has been writing and creating characters for as long as she can remember, allowing her to fall in love with the next man of her dreams with every new story.
Thankfully, fate stepped in and granted her the ultimate wish – a life full of men. Carina lives in a picturesque New England town with her husband, the man who ruined the thought of all others, and two amazing sons who always keep her on her toes.
Carina received her MBA in May, but would much rather play with her imaginary friends (the voices in her head) than work her 8 to 5. When she isn’t trying to juggle being a working mom with karate and drama practices, surprising her children with her sci-fi movie knowledge, or writing, you can find her with her nose pressed against her kindle, on the back of her husband’s motorcycle, or living life vicariously as her Derby Girl persona, Writers Block.
Carina is currently writing Unfinished Business, the next installment of the Bastards MC novels.
