Synopsis

One of the Barnes brothers, Sebastien has always felt blessed. Not only does he have an amazing family, but he’s become a Hollywood golden boy who has everything he’s ever wanted—with one exception. He’s had a thing for Marin since he was a kid, but when he finally summons the courage to ask her out, she turns him down. Marin is ready to settle down, she wants commitment and stability, and Sebastien is still too much of a playboy, caught up in the wild life of the spotlight.

Still reeling from the rejection, Sebastien’s luck runs out later that night when he saves a girl from an assault. The shining knight role fits him just fine, but his armor—and his perfect life—become tarnished when the near-deadly attack lands him in the hospital. Physically scarred, he gives up acting and retreats from everybody.

If anyone can pull Sebastien back from the abyss, it’s Marin. But first, she has to convince him that beauty is not only skin deep…

Heartbreaking, heartwarming, I loved it!

Ruined is the fourth book in the Barnes Brothers series but it can be read as a stand-alone. Characters from the first three books appear in this one and, while I didn’t really feel like I missed anything that I needed while reading this one, I can’t wait to go read the other books in this series.I haven’t read any other books by Shiloh Walker and now I’m wondering why. Ruined was both heartbreaking and heartwarming and I loved it. If you’ve read the book’s blurb you know that the Hero, Sebastien (Seb) Barnes, is injured when he comes to the aid of a woman being attacked. But the blurb doesn’t really say too much about Marin Lassiter.

Marin has known Seb forever; since he was in diapers. His parents are like a second mom and dad and his brothers are her brothers – but not Seb; she’s never had brotherly feelings for him. Marin is older than Seb so she finds her feelings for him a bit disconcerting.

After the attack, Seb crawls into a bottle and won’t talk to or see anyone except Marin. I alternated between wanting to knock him in the head and wanting to hug him until his pain disappeared. Marin is a very likable character and way too good of an actress around Seb. I wanted to scream at her a couple of times – just tell him how you feel!

Once again I’ve read a wonderful book that had my emotions all over the place – in a good way. Shiloh Walker has a way with words that kept me glued to my ereader until it nearly fell out of my hands at 4:00 a.m. It was the first thing I grabbed when I woke up (after only about 5 hours) so I could finish reading the story.

There were characters in this book that I really want to know more about so I will be reading the first three books soon and even though Dash Harlow isn’t a Barnes brother I really hope he gets a book at some point. Are you listening, Ms. Walker?
