Totally Hot!
So I’m going to preface this… I haven’t read Reign, the first in the Sin City Outlaws series, also, the beginning of Zeek and Jillian’s story. That being said I can tell you that I had absolutely no problem jumping into their story with Mercy. It’s also pretty clear from the heat these two engender in Mercy that Reign has got to be an absolute scorcher as well. My love of the story started with the dedication…
I dedicate this book to love. As it is ugly, it is beautiful. It brings pain, as much as it brings happiness. It makes you smile unforgettably, and makes you cry uncontrollably. You feel lost but found all at the same time. It takes time, but is unpredicatable. The question you have to ask yourself when you’re head over heels and seeing everything through rose colored glasses is, is it all worth it? I say yes. To LOVE! *Flips middle finger* It’s better to have loved, than to have never loved at all.
So very apropos for this story. The very beginning of Mercy starts with Jillian and Zeek on the run. Jillian is covered in blood… the blood of her father… whom Zeek murdered. You have to wonder right there how they will ever get past that. It sets the pace for a major case of love/hate. All Jillian wants to do is turn herself in and explain that she had nothing to do with her father, Lieutenant Oaks death. Zeek is having none of that even if that means handcuffing her and dragging her with him. Because Zeek knows Oaks was dirty and half the force with him. And the hit placed on Oaks by Zeek’s crime lord uncle is just the latest move in manipulating and punishing him for his perceived treason against the club in falling for a lady in blue. Zeek also knows that if he doesn’t get Jillian out of town she’ll be next on the hit list. So like it or not she’s going with him. But lord knows if he’s jumping from one fry pan to another when he seeks out his estranged brother’s help. No matter which direction he takes it places them both in danger and it’s only a matter of weighing which danger is worse. But Zeek knows one thing… he loves Jillian and he’ll put her over club and family every damned time.
I didn’t know the measure of Jillian when she was first introduced in Mercy. She was bawling her eyes out… totally expected considering she’d just held her father in her arms as he took his last breath. She was in shock and being led along by her father’s killer, the man she loves. Then she decided enough was enough and started to fight back. While she didn’t win, she certainly put up the good fight. Jillian is fighting to understand Zeek’s motivation and it’s a struggle to accept that her father was a dirty cop. Then to accept that going back is a sure fire way to get herself killed… a bit much for her to swallow. As much as she loves Zeek, she’s now struggling with how much she hates him. How can they ever get past what has happened? How can they get past the fact that he is the president of an outlaw MC and she’s a sheriff. It all seems so insurmountable.
On the run, these two will have a lot to iron out and even when they find idyllic moments they are far from safe. Danger is ahead. Danger is behind. It’s going to take some major negotiating and perhaps a bit of groveling to get out of this mess. Things are going to get desperate. But the one thing you will never question is just how much Zeek cares for Jillian or just how much she loves him. Mercy is action packed. It’s gritty. It’s hot and steamy. It’s one you won’t be able to put down. I know I couldn’t. And now I’m certainly going to pick up Reign and see how this all started because I’m not sure I’m done with the heat Jillian and Zeek put off.

“Just—Just get in the shower,” he mutters, pulling back the shower curtain.
“Why are you doing all this?”A pensive look crosses his face. “All of what?”“This!” I wave my hands around. “Holding that nice old couple at gunpoint, in here with me. All of it?”
His eyes rake over me, and he shrugs. “So you could shower.”
“So you kidnapped a little old couple so I could shower?”
“Yep!”
It’s wrong, so wrong. Yet, I feel my chest tighten with longing and adoration. I like it. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? I can’t help my attraction to him. His stare is cold, his calloused hands rough, but his draw is soft and alluring.
“You going to get in?” He flicks a brow at me.
