Synopsis

Meet Colton Wade, FMX rider…

I’m just a small town guy who caught a lucky break. Now I’m living the dream, on the brink of high-flying super-stardom. But something’s missing.

That something is Taylor.

She’s my best friend. The one who makes me want to push harder and higher. The one I fall back on when shit gets tough. The one I’d give it all up for.

I’d do anything to protect her. To make her dreams come true too.

But a single night changes everything.

And now the one she needs protection from…is me.

Hot, hot, hot – but there is a cliffhanger

I am not a fan of books with cliffhangers – but – I am a fan of Molly McLain’s writing. I have read all of her books and loved them. When I was offered the opportunity to read this one for review I knew I had to read it even though there would be a cliffhanger. This story will conclude in the next book which Molly has promised to release in May.

This is a friends-to-lovers story, one of my favorite romance tropes. Although this type of story isn’t new I love what Molly’s done with it. Fair warning – like most of Molly’s other books there is a lot of strong language in this one.

The story is told in first person, alternating POV. Colton and Taylor have been best friends since they were children but they’ve never dated or had a romantic relationship. Colton is living his dream as an FMX racer touring all over the country. Taylor had to give up her dream and leave college to come back home to help take care of her father after he suffered a traumatic brain injury. She is unhappy with her life and wants nothing more than to go back to college and get out of Maribel.

I love the strong friendship that Colton and Taylor have. They know that they can count on each other to be there and give support when needed. The emotions they bring out in each other are heart-wrenching at times. Colton’s not a bad guy but he makes some mistakes once he and Taylor decide to take their friendship to a different level. Taylor isn’t blameless either and I had to remember that these two young people are in their early twenties and still have a lot to learn about relationships.

Molly McLain’s writing is raw and gritty in this book and I can’t wait to read the conclusion. I’m not sure what else she has planned for this series but several of Colton’s FMX buddies and Taylor’s other bestie, Matt, would be great candidates for getting their own books.
