Izzy is on the fast track to nowhere. Being ordinary really blew sometimes. That’s until she meets Lucas–a man that’s unlike anyone she’s ever met. Mostly because he isn’t actually a man. He is a supernatural creature that proclaims to police the Light and Dark in order to protect humans.
And Izzy–well–she isn’t the human she thought she was. She is actually a supernatural being as well. And now Lucas is going to do everything in his power to find out what she is and protect her from the Dark lurking around the corner.
Awakening follows Izzy as she navigates this new world of demons, vampires, angels, and many other supernatural creatures. Recruited by the Promiscus Guardians and partnering with the most brooding and devilishly handsome man she’s ever met, Lucas, Izzy is suddenly knee-deep up crap creek. Discover the secret behind her power and why it’s such a commodity in her Awakening.
Ok please note… Promiscus and Promiscuous are two different things. Promiscus, Latin for “mixed” refers to the mixed heritage of the Guardians that watch over humanity. Of course, I did the quick look at the word and misread it thinking something totally different, after all, it is a romance. So you might be questioning just who are the Promiscus Guardians? They are the children of mixed paranormal birthrights who fight under the guidance of an angel counsel in order to preserve the light. They vanquish the dark, sometimes from within their own midst.
That was enough to suck me in. Add in a brooding Angel-Vampire and the vortex just got much more powerful. Lucas is seven-hundred years old and has every reason to disdain love. After all, his father made the ultimate sacrifice of an angel and his vampire mother turned around and betrayed him and abandoned her son. Needless to say, trust doesn’t come easy for Lucas. He has his hands full leading the efforts of the guardians. He’s more than earned his reputation as unattainable and untouchable. However, his stoic mien is about to crumble. One seemingly innocent bystander is about to shoot it to smithereens with her sharp wit, sarcasm and irresistible curves.
Izzy just wanted a further gander at the two hotties that left the bar. I mean can you blame the girl? She’s been celibate for a couple years and she’s feeling desperate. Desperate enough to do a little eavesdropping. She certainly didn’t anticipate being slammed against a concrete wall accused of being some sort of spy. Things go from bad to worse when she wakes up in someone else’s bedroom confronted by the two hotties. Lord, they’d kidnapped her. To top that they have got to be totally certifiable. I mean they have to be, right? Light and Dark, paranormal creatures and magic are the stuff her latest romance novels are made of… not reality. Then she’s slammed with an energy ball and her whole life is on a collision course with the unreal. But if there is one thing this ex-librarian is good at, it’s adapting. So you might wonder makes her so very much heroine material. I thought I’d let Lucas tell you…
I know that this is a selfish notion. How could I possibly think it when the very reason I fell in love with you is your strong sense of self? Your eagerness to lend a helping hand. The way you so optimistically face each day. Even your unrivaled obstinance are incredibly desirable qualities that make me entirely too infatuated.
Discovering her awakening abilities are unparalleled is nothing compared to discovering that she is a hot commodity in the war between light and dark. Every turn she makes has demons on her tail and now it looks like they might have a traitor in their midst. Which of the numerous hotties could it possibly be? Pavel, the Russian warlock/fey flirt with problems keeping his hands to himself? Adan, the elusive Spanish werewolf/warlock? Gustave or Cecile, the French siblings that definitely know how to kick butt and take names later? Then there is the erstwhile leader, Victor. Someone forgot to tell Izzy that Angels could be so darned hot and sinfully sexual in nature. If that were not enough, he’s the angel that took over raising Lucas when his father was killed and his mother abandoned him… he certainly couldn’t be their traitor. And, they’re in big trouble if he is because Izzy can’t seem to evict him from her mind. Talk about embarrassing… try having uncontrollable random sex thoughts about an angel when he’s privy to everything that crosses your mind… and he’s not even the man she’s fallen head over heels in love with.
Brianna West has an exceptional tale in Awakening. It’s an awesome debut from this author and I cannot wait to read Metamorphoses which releases this week on the 9th. This initial series follows the adventures and romance of Lucas and Izzy. I understand though that it’s quite possible we’ll get the opportunity to see more of her very endearing secondary characters in an offshoot series sometime in the future. I sure hope so. So although you all haven’t seen her name before, I’m telling you… you’re gonna wanna check out the Promiscus Guardians series. It’s not often you see a five-star rating from a debut novel. Awakening is one of them.
