The one that slipped out the door...
Haze Welch has done something stupid. He’s fallen for the girl he’s being paid to protect. Worse than that, while he’s home for a family emergency, his charge is kidnapped. As he races back to LA, he’s determined to do whatever it takes to find Leighton and make sure she’s safe again. He can only pray he’s not too late.
I’d survived a lot, but I wasn’t sure I could survive losing Leighton.
With the woman he loves in more danger than ever, Haze puts everything on the line, including his heart.
Don’t miss the exciting finale to the sizzling military series, Hero.
Hero is a pretty good read but if you’re looking for completion and an HEA it may not be your cup of tea. Hero is a serial read. The Assignment is the first installment. In it you meet special forces Sergeant Cormac “Haze” Welch. Haze is definitely hero material all the way. First he’s fishing an injured and drowning Leighton from the pool at a party and four years later he’s saving her brother’s life in a firefight. When Haze is told he won’t be able to return to active duty he’s left at loose ends. Of course, his family has his whole life planned out for him sitting behind a desk. For this special forces medic sitting a desk is the furthest from anything he wants in life. So when he’s offered a job as a what appears to be a glorified babysitter for a vacuous party girl he sees the opportunity to work his recovery and get back to active duty. What he didn’t expect was to be confronted with is Leighton, the girl he’d save… the girl he’d made love to and ditched out the door on. The girl he hasn’t been able to forget. But has she forgotten him?
Leighton Machus had plans for her life… that is until her parents died. Then her life was taken over by her tycoon grandfather, a grandfather with the worst of opinions of her. There was nothing she could do that was right or that would gain his approval or respect. So when the worst is expected of you why disappoint with anything more than what’s expected? She’s become rather good at playing the vacuous party girl. She has a player boyfriend that is a habitual wanderer, a demanding grandfather, and self-centered best friend. The only one that sees past her facade is her little brother and he means the world to Leighton. When her little brother, Ian is injured on the battlefield she can’t help but want him home for good. But, Leighton knows serving is all Ian wants in life. Grandfather, on the other hand, has decided to pull a few strings and have Ian honorably discharged. And, in the same tune of loving interference he’s decided Leighton needs a bodyguard. Good lord, a glorified babysitter. If it weren’t for the fact that her babysitter was the man that saved her brother’s life she’d so ditch him. Then she discovers he’s not just her brother’s savior but her own. He’s also the man that rocked her world and skipped out the door with no warning. She’s never forgotten her night in his arms. But has he forgotten her?
The chemistry is there. They’re in an untenable situation. They’re both ready to cut their losses and walk away. But there are threats Leighton and Haze are unaware of. Threats that perhaps will have Haze rethinking his decision to walk away even if staying is a miserable prospect watching the woman he wants in another’s arms. Ms. Parker has the beginning of a great story with this first installment. Her characters are compelling and very likable. If you’re looking for a great serial with a military hero then Hero will certainly satisfy. All indications are the suspense and action are about to ramp up.
