Synopsis

He’s only playing boyfriend to protect me, but Brooks Riggins is everything I need.

After leaving my toxic boyfriend, I flee to my family vacation home in Swallow Cove. Which takes me directly into the path of broody bar manager Brooks Riggins.

He’s large and intimidating, but with a protective streak that I didn’t see coming. When my ex gives me trouble, Brooks tells him to take a hike. Not only that, he also claims to be my new man.

Brooks is as straight as they come, but he’s ready to step up and play the part.

In fact, it may not just be pretend, judging by the way Brooks looks at me. Especially when he catches sight of me in the lingerie I sometimes wear.

My ex said the lingerie made me too feminine. Too weak.
Just a pretty boy.

But as Brooks hands me all the power I need to heal and be intimate again, I can finally see the truth.

I am apretty boy, and it doesn’t make me weak at all.
In fact, I never have to be weak again.

But can I be strong enough to trust another man with my heart?

Pretty Buoy is Book 2 of Swallow Cove. It can be read as a standalone, but it may be more enjoyable to read Book 1 for an introduction to all the characters in the series.
Trigger Warning: past abuse, toxic ex-boyfriend.

Skylar and Brooks are great together!

Note to readers: If you’ve already read book one in this series, Dock Tease, you need to know that this book runs concurrently/parallel to that one. Please keep that in mind otherwise you might be a bit confused when starting to read Pretty Buoy. New readers – no worries if you haven’t read Dock Tease, Pretty Buoy stands completely alone.

I know this isn’t the politically correct term these days but this was a perfect gay-for-you (GFY) story. Brooks has never had any thoughts about wanting to explore being with a man but there’s something about Skylar that makes him want to protect him from his horrible ex and to get close to him. Brooks later tells people he’s bisexual.

Skylar knows better than to fall for the straight guy, especially after just coming out of a bad relationship. He just can’t seem to help himself when it comes to Brooks, though. And protective Brooks really turns him on.

I loved how caring Brooks was with Skylar and how willing he was to take things as slow as Sky needed. He was also very willing to let Sky do whatever he needed to in the bedroom so that he could avoid any triggers that he had from his ex.

Skylar needs to prove to himself and his father that he can handle the project of turning an old resort into something the town will approve of and enjoy. He has to confront his devious ex and the unscrupulous company who wants to turn the resort into something the town will hate.

The epilogue, set eight months later, was perfect!
