The very last thing U.S. Marshal Eoghan Sapphire wants is a new partnership. Worse yet, the transfer from Lexington, Kentucky is a civilian. That means it’ll be Eoghan’s responsibility to break him into the I.S.R. and the unique way their particular U.S. Marshals Service unit operates. He decides being a jerk to him and keeping him at arm’s length just might be the way to handle things…until he meets him.
Aristotle Brown isn’t like anyone Eoghan’s ever known before. He’s polite, willing to learn, and most of all, devastatingly handsome. Eoghan’s actually happy they’re thrown into a dangerous situation with a WITSEC protectee the first day his brand-new partner is on the job. Dealing with this particular man will let Eoghan know what Ari Brown’s made of. Will he break under pressure?
Dealing with humans is standard everyday stuff in the U.S. Marshals Service but other non-human species like shifters, other paranormals, and aliens from distant star systems…well, that’s where things promise to get downright interesting. Their second day on the job is no different. And he’s not prepared for Ari’s cool-headed composure when he comes face to face with an example of everything the I.S.R. deals with every day.
To top it all off, the marshal sent to back the two men up when things get dicey in Griffith Park isn’t as reliable as Eoghan had hoped. The impulses of the guy nearly get them all killed but fortunately, Ari performs like a dream, helping extract everyone when things go from bad to worse. Eoghan is sure of a couple of things…acting as this man’s training officer isn’t going to be such a struggle after all, and keeping his hands off him is going to be the hardest part about this assignment.

Aliens, shifters, vamps and fairies, oh my!
I read this book with my eyes and then listened to the audiobook not long after. There isn’t a lot that I can add to my original review (shown below) except that I enjoyed listening to Kevin Earlywine and Declan Winters perform the audiobook.
The first book in a new series always seems to take a bit to get into because there is so much information to impart but this one started off quickly with a great prologue.
Ari is thrust into the world of the I.S.R. (Interspecies Response) learning about all kinds of things he never imagined existed. Eoghan isn’t thrilled to get a new partner but finds himself drawn to Ari.
Patricia Logan has created a new world full of intriguing characters and I thoroughly enjoyed this introduction to the I.S.R. The romance between Eoghan and Ari moves along quickly and boy are they hot together. 🔥😊 They solve a couple of cases but one is yet to be resolved and I’m sure will carry on into the next book.
There were also a couple of surprise reveals near the end of this book; some pretty big hints were given along the way so I wasn’t really too surprised but that didn’t matter. I’m looking forward to reading the next one in this new series.

Eoghan got his boots and socks off but when he heard a zipper, he automatically looked up. What he saw made his mouth go dry. Ari had already pulled off the T-shirt he’d been wearing when he’d come in that morning. The wide chest, cut pecs, and rippling muscles of his lightly furred abs were on full display along with the tattoo he’d spotted earlier. It was a curved black Ranger banner with gold lettering overlaying a silver star, then covering two crossed automatic rifles. It’d been inked on his left bicep.
When his gaze slid lower, the sight made his breath catch. Ari had unbuttoned his cargos and unzipped them, revealing black boxer briefs beneath. The prominent bulge which curved underneath the soft fabric made Eoghan’s mouth water. He was a gorgeous man. Deliberately dragging his gaze away, not wanting to invade his privacy any longer than he had, he turned around, showing his partner his back. But Ari shattered the silence.
“It’s too late.”
“What?” he asked, not bothering to turn around.
“I saw you looking.”
A shiver went down Eoghan’s spine. Under any other circumstances, that may have been the hottest thing he’d ever heard. “What?”
“I saw you looking at my body, Eoghan.”
Eoghan’s eyes slid shut as he set his hands on his hips and concentrated on his breathing. He couldn’t help that his cock was hardening inside his pants.
FUCK!
He opened his eyes and slowly turned around. The man was standing there looking entirely too smug with his arms crossed over his wide chest, giving his beautiful pecs too much definition. It was all Eoghan could do not to drool.
“I was looking at the tattoo,” he said. It was the truth, just not the whole truth. When Ari dropped his arms and took a couple of steps forward, Eoghan swallowed hard. He was close enough now for Eoghan to smell the sandalwood and orange even over the stink of albat guano.
“Do you like it?” Ari said, looking down at his shoulder and running long fingers over the tat.
Up this close, Eoghan could see the definition of the letters, the expertly inked fine lines, the crispness of the color even on his dark skin. But it wasn’t the tattoo he really admired. It was the way it rippled over the bicep as Ari lifted his arm and gave it a flex, turning in profile like a goddamned bodybuilder to give him a better view. His cock was as hard as a brick and just being this close to his partner was making everything worse. He nodded quickly and stepped back, nearly knocking over the folding chair he’d been sitting in.
“It’s really nice.”
Ari watched him practically trip over the chair before righting it and then smiled brilliantly when he looked up. He made no other comment, just resumed undressing.
