If someone asked me to describe our love story, I would only need to use two words.
Before and After.
• • • •
When I met Leonardo Ricci, he was determined I would only be a fling, while I was certain he was my forever.
Seven years later, we’re the perfect couple. Happy, married, and in love-in sickness and health, till death do us part.
At least until the unthinkable happens.
Now we can’t look at each other. We don’t sleep in the same bed. We can’t even be in the same room. The loss is too great and the pain runs too deep.
But this man is the love of my life. I convinced him once, and I would be damned if I couldn’t do it again. I would be damned if I couldn’t fix what we broke.

Broke me but I loved it.
Sometimes I just want to read a book that I know is going to tear me to pieces. That’s what a Marley Valentine book usually does for me. But her books also ultimately leave me uplifted and this one was no exception.
I’m not sure why the author didn’t want to put the content warning in this book’s blurb but she didn’t so I’m going to respect that and just give the link to the book’s page on her website where you can read the warning for yourself. What We Broke
This story deals with the aftermath of a devastating loss, one that a lot people probably can’t relate to but can sympathize with. It’s also a loss that a lot of people might not think would affect a man as much as it did Leo and Jesse.
While both men are deeply affected, it really broke Leo. The story is told in both before and after the incident which allows us to see how vulnerable Leo was even before this happened. I don’t always like books that have time shifts like this one does but here it’s necessary and it really works for this story.
What We Broke is a deeply emotional story and one that I can absolutely see happening in real life. It’s also a story about the value of counseling and having a support system. And it’s ultimately a testament to the deep and loving connection between Jesse and Leo, even though Leo tries his best to sever their connection. This is a story that will stick with me for a while.
