A new twist on the Arthurian Legends…
I just love a story that takes something tried and true and adds a unique spin that allows you to go places you’ve never been before. Knight Defenders is a great example of a story that does just that. Granted there are a lot of stories and slants on the Arthurian Legend and I tend to love them all. The spin that Knight Defenders takes brings a group of eleven of Arthur’s knights through time as immortals. Immortals that have had their souls split in two by the very magic that made them invincible. They have spent centuries fighting off the demonic creations of Mordred meant to devastate mankind. Their one saving grace when Merlin changed the warriors into immortals was that one day they would be reunited with the other half of their soul in their tresor, their soulmate. The cutting edge of that double-edged sword is that if their tresor is killed they too die. To top it off, the magic that changed them also scattered them across the globe and it has taken centuries for just a few of them to find each other. They have their suspicions on the number of tresors that have been born and already perished taking their other half with them. Bottom line they have no clue how many knights are left of the original eleven.
In Knight Defender, you meet Gwen, the first of the tresors and the catalyst to the end games. Gwen was named Guinevere by her father, who was a professor of Arthurian legend. Unfortunately, towards the end of his life, many began to see him as somewhat of a crackpot as he attempted to prove his theories. Life was spent moving from one campus to another across the country in a rapidly spiraling downward career move. In the end, Gwen was left with inexhaustible medical bills when her father succumbed to lung cancer. She’s gave up her education, lives in a worn down apartment in a seedy neighborhood and works in a diner. The last thing she ever thought she’d be dealing with was Arthur’s legend come to life. When she is attacked by one of Mordred’s demons, though, she has little choice but to face a new version of reality. Meeting Lance sparks all her womanly interests. At the same time, she can’t help question whether Lance is only interested in her as the reincarnation of his first love, Guinevere. Or maybe she is just his prophesized tresor and feelings have nothing to do with it? Drop in a surprise from the past and any developing relationship with Lance is definitely on a teetering rock at the edge of a cliff face.
Lancelot is at the end of his rope. After centuries of battling the De-Vall demons, he’s ready to hang up his sword… then he chances upon Gwen being attacked by a De-Vall in a back alley. If that weren’t enough, though, she can actually see and hear them, something normal humans can’t do. Combined with the irony that her name is Guinevere and her father was a professor of Arthurian legends and every sign that Merlin and fate are at work is pretty obvious. Now, not only must he fight to save humanity as the leader of the knights, but he must do everything in his power to keep Gwen safe. The De-Valls are attracted to the tresors and will do anything to take them out. Then the past comes visiting and puts everything he has with Gwen at risk. No matter the obstacles, though, Lance isn’t giving up the tresor he has come to love.
The Knights series arc gets off to a great start in Knight Defenders and I’m really looking forward to seeing where Ms. Sue takes us. The future promises danger, challenge, magic and most of all hope for the knights of the round table as each finds his tresor and the battle heats up.

“Knight Defenders by Victoria Sue is a fun read, with humor, the unbelievable, one woman with sass and attitude, as well as a heart as big Texas and one brave knight who just may be falling for the right woman at the right time. Enjoy the magic, the action and the mystery of King Arthur’s men. Fun reading! Fast reading! The author, Victoria Sue has done a stand up job of blending myth, magic and mirth in a magnetic page turner!” ~ 5 Star Goodreads Review (Diane)
Has loved books for as long as she can remember. Books were always what pocket money went on and what usually Father Christmas brought. When she ran out of her kids’ adventure stories, she would go raid her mom’s. By the age of eight she was devouring classics like Little Women, and fell in love with love stories. She’s still in love with them. Any size, any shape, any creature – love is love, no matter what it says on the box.In fact if they don’t fit very neatly into any box she loves them even more! She has a very patient husband and three wonderful children. In 2010 in search of adventure they all moved from the UK to the US and are happily settled in Florida. Finally, after reading love stories for so long, she decided to write her own.

Review: Highland Heat by Jennifer Haymore
Historical RomanceJennifer Haymore’s seductive Highland Knights series heats up with an electrifying tale of class warfare, fierce loyalties, and forbidden love. With blood still drying on the front lines at Waterloo, Lady Grace Carrington helps an injured Duncan to a British medical tent. What starts in innocence becomes a tryst of steamy secrecy that defies society's clearly drawn lines of class.
So glad you enjoyed it – thanks for the fab review!
