23 December of 2015 by

Erzabet BishopAuthor’s Bio:

Erzabet Bishop is a bestselling and award-winning author who loves to write naughty stories. She is the author of Lipstick, Dinner Date, Crave, The Science of Lust, Wicked for You, Arcane Imaginarium: Spirit Board, Holidays in Hell, Sigil Fire, Written on Skin, Club Beam, Pomegranate, A Red Dress for Christmas, The Black Magic Café, Fantasies in Red, Sweet Seductions: The Erzabet Bishop Collection, Holiday Cruise, Fetish Fair, Temptation Resorts: Jess, Temptation Resorts: Marnie, Taming the Beast, The Erotic Pagans Series: Beltane Fires, Samhain Shadows and Yuletide Temptation along with being a contributor to many anthologies. Erzabet has been a finalist in the GCLS awards for 2014 and 2015, winning the Goldie for her spot in two anthologies. She has been nominated for the 2016 Golden Flogger Award for Crave. She lives in Texas with her husband, furry children and can often be found lurking in local bookstores. She loves to bake, make naughty crochet projects and watch monster movies. When she isn’t writing, she loves to review music and books.

Recently Deb and I got a hold of several of Erzabet’s books to review. Well as you can imagine the tug-a-war commenced. That’s what happens when the two of us get hold of an author that writes in a genre we both enjoy. Oh, wait… Sorry, it was just her books, not Erzabet. Otherwise, we might have hogtied her for the interview. Luckily no rope or threats were needed 🙂

Deb

Are you in the lifestyle?

Erzabet Bishop:

Yes, but I am very private about my habits.

Sleeping Beauty by Anne RiceTopping from Below by Laura ReeseDeb

How did you get interested in writing about BDSM?

Erzabet Bishop:

I discovered two books by Laura Reese called Topping from Below and Panic Snap when I was in high school. Also the Beauty books by Anne Rice. They called to me like nothing else ever had and I got a quiver in my gut. I knew one day I would have to explore that.

Deb

How do you do your research?

Erzabet Bishop:

I talk to people who are in the know. I also have an extensive library to refer to things I am not as familiar with.

Deb

Do you pull from personal experience for scenes?

Erzabet Bishop:

Some. But most are from observation and discussions with others.

Golden Flogger

Deb

How do you feel about being nominated for the Golden Flogger Award?

Erzabet Bishop:

I am honored. It is really something to be in the same category as Anne Rice, one of the authors I grew up reading as a teen.

Jean

Do you identify more as a dom, sub or switch?

Erzabet Bishop:

I would have to say switch. There are moments when I like to be in charge and others where it is a joy to bend.

Jean

Do you find one easier to write than another?

Erzabet Bishop:

I like them both, but I love writing about dominant females.

Jean

What/who do you have on your tbr pile?

Erzabet Bishop:

If you saw my tbr pile in physical form and on my ereader you would swoon. I will probably be crushed by my bookpile one day and die a happy woman. I have all genres from teen (which I also write under another name) to reference books, to horror, fiction, crochet, urban fantasy…it’s all over.

Jean ~ Sounds like Erzabet and I may have a competition for largest collections of bookpiles going. 🙂

Jean

Do you write what you read?

Erzabet Bishop:

Yes.

Jean

Who do you consider your audience when you write?

Erzabet Bishop:

Women mostly. I want to appeal to the average woman who dreams about going beyond the vanilla boundaries of her life. Women can feel trapped by their obligations to their family and schedules. I write to help them escape.

Jean ~ A woman after my own heart. 🙂

Jean

So many authors that write BDSM romance aren’t actually targeting lifestylers. Do you feel that your writing does?

Erzabet Bishop:

Yes and no. In some of my work, the BDSM is very light for the casual romance reader. In Crave, I tried to make sure the detail was more true to what someone would experience in a club setting. That can be a challenge in a short novella.

Jean

What is your favorite brand of paranormal to read/write?

Erzabet Bishop:

I love it all, but shifters are a favorite.

Jean

Writing novellas requires really tight writing and plotting. What tools do you use or process to stay on track?

Erzabet Bishop:

I try to write every day and keep going over my work to fix plot holes and flow of the story. The book is formed in the same way a potter works at a vase. A little nudge here and a finger there…and soon you have a novella. 🙂

Jean

What are you currently working on?

Erzabet Bishop:

I am working on my longest novel yet-Glitterlust, the continuation to my Goldie finalist title Sigil Fire. It is a lesbian urban fantasy tale of werewolves and a succubus. And yes there will be some BDSM. I can’t help myself.

I’m also working on a couple of ménage stories, a medical romance, a sweet romance under the pen name, a contemporary piece and the follow up stories to Holidays in Hell.

Jean

Do you work on more than one project at a time?

Erzabet Bishop:

Always. When I can’t focus or are getting bogged down with one, I switch over to another. It helps keep things going.

Jean

If someone who read your books became interested in exploring BDSM what advice would you give them?

Erzabet Bishop:

Learn by asking the right questions. Find someone who knows before you try to do something on your own and someone gets hurt. Safe, sane and consensual are the three words to live by. If you can, find someone local to speak with, or if that is not possible, there are lots of online sources where you can ask questions. Dr. Charley has some wonderful books about the subject both for writers and people who want to learn more for their private lives. I highly recommend them.

Jean ~For those wondering that would be Doctor Charley Ferrer.

We hope you all enjoyed our talk with Erzabet as much as we did. Be sure to check out our reviews of her books. If you’re looking for a short erotic read that hits the spot then you can’t lose with any of the books we’ve read.

  1. Hey Erzabet,

You sent along the media kit for Holidays In Hell. But I don’t think neither Deb nor I have received the ARC for it. I was trying to recall from the sign up if there was a specific timeframe for the review and post. I can put togehter a release blitz from what you sent but thought a review would go well with it. Let me know what you think.
