After a series of girls are ritualistically murdered on the cold streets of Philadelphia, seasoned detective, Sydney Willows, is forced to work with sexy, alpha vampire, Kade Issacson. While working the case, Sydney finds herself inexplicably drawn to Kade, fighting the passion she feels towards him.
Kade, determined to solve the case and mete out justice, is captivated by the independent, fiery detective. As he attempts to protect her from a very real murderer, Kade grows concerned that the beautiful, but very human detective, could easily end up dead should she tangle with supernatural forces that are beyond her control.
The investigation leads them into a dark and dangerous world, deep in the heart of New Orleans, where together, they search for the perpetrators of the Voodoo killings. Sydney soon becomes the target of the killer and ends up fighting for her life and love in the Big Easy. If she makes it out alive, will she give into the intoxicating desire she feels for Kade?
Ok, I’m going to be honest here. I saw “paranormal”, “New Orleans,” and “erotic,” and said, “ok I need to read this one before I review Jax.” It certainly didn’t hurt that the book is free at the moment. I’m not sure if it’s always free, but if you’re like me and want the chance to see where this series started now is a good time to do it. Having read it, I can tell you, you will not be disappointed if your reading tastes are anything like mine…. Vampires, werewolves, witches, voodoo, mages and kick-ass heroines… definitely my kind of read.
Kade’s Dark Embrace starts out in Philadelphia. So the first thing I was asking was… “Hey, I thought this book was about the Immortals of New Orleans?” Well, it is silly! Have a little patience. Sheesh! Sydney is a detective for Philadelphia homicide and the story has to start somewhere.
This is one smart mouthed, kick-ass detective and it’s not her first ride at the rodeo. She has a few scars to prove it. What amazed me about Sydney is that her previous run in with a tiger shifter hadn’t turned her totally against all paranormal creatures. She may not want to hand her case over to the Paranormal City Alternative Police or P-CAP for short, but she has no problem hanging out with paranorms. In fact, her regular booty call is with the werewolf alpha of the city, Tristan. (Note to self: read Tristan’s Lyceum Wolves.) She’s also learned to gear herself up for run-ins with the preternatural set… silver bullets, chains, and stakes are but a smattering of her arsenal and she knows how to use them. When Kade Issacson shows up at her latest homicide scene wanting to claim authority over the case for P-CAP, Sydney lets her mouth spew. It doesn’t matter how pretty this nice piece of eye candy is, he is not taking over her case even if he does have her nether regions in a total uproar. And, if there is one thing Sydney knows, it’s that Mr. Kade Issacson is not a detective with his fancy shoes, tailored suits and chauffeured limo.
Kade is instantly drawn to the detective. While regular sex partners are nothing new for Kade, actual lovers have been few over his centuries as a vampire. Wanting to claim someone as his own… never happened before. But before there can be any claiming, Kade has to make sure his headstrong detective is kept alive, especially with the nasty piece of work he thinks they are dealing with. Vampiric vodun priestess ex-lovers are not a thing to scoff at and this one is out to claim him whether he wants her or not and at the expense of anyone who gets in her way. So when the threats get a little too close to home in Philadelphia, Kade takes Sydney on a hunting trip in New Orleans. Being the head of the paranormal community in New Orleans certainly helps.
I’d tell you more, but umm nope. You’re going to have to read it to find out for yourself. I will tell you that the vibes these two have going for each other are explosive. The sex will leave your panties wet and have you regularly fanning yourself. The story is fairly fast paced. The suspense and thrills will definitely keep you engaged. So, why haven’t you picked up your copy yet?
