Synopsis

This is a great series!

Book 1, Kick Off:
This one ends on a cliffhanger, which I didn’t realize when I listened to it. I’m really not a fan of cliffhangers but since the series is finished (in ebook format) I wasn’t too upset about it.

The story is fairly angsty with Jay being in the closet and Seb having to toe the line with his father or risk being cut off. The cliffhanger ending left me wanting to start book two right away but I think I’ll wait for the audiobook which should be coming very soon.

Book 2, Break Through:
This book started off just a bit slow for me but I think it’s my fault because I was listening while I was doing something else. As soon as I was able to concentrate fully on this story, I quickly became engrossed in what was going on with Seb in the U.S. and Jay back in London.

There were some pretty sad things happening but overall, I thought the story was pretty uplifting. There was a very satisfying HFN but I’m glad there is still one more story to come.

Book 3, Come Back:
Oh my! Parts of this story just tore me up; the things that Jay goes through are so awful. But love and perseverance finally triumph.

Jay takes a lot of flak for coming out and it causes him some major problems on the pitch. He gets injured and his football (soccer) career is in jeopardy. Seb and his band find success which results in some conflict between him and Jay.

There are trust issues between Seb and Jay in this one but they both finally open up to each other and make their relationship a priority. They each find professional success and get their romantic happy ending.

Piers Ryman’s performance of this book, and the entire series, was really wonderful. I love the accents he uses and his delivery of C.F. White’s words brought me to tears more than once. This is a series that I can highly recommend.

About Author

Brought up in a relatively small town in Hertfordshire, I managed to do what most other residents try and fail—leave.

Studying at a West London university, I realized there was a whole city out there waiting to be discovered, so, much like Dick Whittington before me, I never made it back home and still endlessly searches for the streets paved with gold, slowly coming to the realization they’re mostly paved with chewing gum. And the odd bit of graffiti. And those little circles of yellow spray paint where the council point out the pot holes to someone who is supposedly meant to fix them instead of staring at them vacantly whilst holding a polystyrene cup of watered-down coffee.

I eventually moved West to East along that vast District Line and settled for pie and mash, cockles and winkles and a bit of Knees Up, Mother Brown to live in the East End of London, securing a job and creating a life, a home and a family.

Having worked in Higher Education for most of my career, a life-altering experience brought pen back to paper after I’d written stories as a child but never had the confidence to show them to the world. Having embarked on this writing malarkey, I cannot stop.

So strap in, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride…
