Preston believed he would never find his mate. When he finally does, he’s in for a surprise. His mate, Dylan, is a rare omega wolf-shifter, but he’s still a child himself. Due to the unusual circumstances, the families agree to keep Preston and Dylan separated, only allowing monitored emails to be exchanged between them. Six years later, Dylan returns to the wolf-shifter town of Barton, and Preston. With Christmas just around the corner, it’s the perfect time for Dylan to meet the Callahan Pack, reunite with his mate, and figure out exactly what his omega status means for his future with Preston.

A sweet age gap story.
Sugar Cookies and Mistletoe is a short novella so it was a really quick read for me. It’s difficult to do a lot of character development in such a short book but Kay Doherty did a good job of conveying everything we need to know about the characters.
The blurb lets you know that when Preston finds his mate, Dylan, that he is still a child. This is kind of weird, most age-gap stories I’ve read both parties have been adults when they meet. This isn’t one of those forbidden type of stories, though, as Dylan goes away to stay with family until he comes of age. The only contact that he and Preston have is through email.
It’s Christmastime, 6 years later, when Dylan returns to Preston so they can begin their life together. This may be one of the sweetest, least graphic, M/M stories I’ve ever read; there was no on page sex and really very little talk about it at all. While I enjoy sex in the M/M books I read it’s not always necessary to tell a good story and I enjoyed reading this one.
I almost always wish that books that are this short were longer so I can get to know the characters better but I knew how short Sugar Cookies and Mistletoe was when I agreed to read and review it. It’s my first book by Kay Doherty and I will be reading more of her work.

Contemporary RomanceNick took her face in his hands. “As you wish,” he said and touched his lips to hers, a soft whisper. “As you wish,” he murmured, and brushed her lips again. “As you wish,” he repeated, now kissing the spot on her cheek where her dimple appeared. “As you wish.” His lips moved feather-light over her cheekbones, her eyes, forehead, nose, against her ear. “Forever, Merry, as you wish,” he whispered before returning to her mouth.
