Sergei Andronikov was a child when the Mafia wiped out his family, leaving him with nothing but a hunger for revenge. Years later, through ruthless strategy and tireless patience, he’s a contract killer working for the three families ruling Cape Swan…and he’s nearly in position to bring them all down from the inside.
Domenico “Dom” Maisano is Mafia royalty, a made man…and a hitman. He’s caught up in a violent life he can’t escape, struggling to maintain an image he doesn’t want, and suppressing desires he can’t have.
A chance encounter throws the killers into each other’s paths. Though Dom knows he’s playing a dangerous game, he’s intrigued and keeps coming back. Sergei can’t resist him either – Dom is everything he set out to destroy, but he’s also everything he’s ever ached for in a man.
Then Sergei gets the contract he’s been waiting for – the hit that promises to bring the town’s Mafia to its knees.
But when a boss makes an unexpected move, Sergei must choose between dropping the hammer on the families he vowed to annihilate, and protecting the man he swore he wouldn’t love.
And the wrong choice – or even the right one – will destroy them both.

I never thought I’d like a mafia story.
I have never been interested – at all – in reading mafia stories, whether they be M/M, M/F or any other combination. But when I saw that Michael Ferraiuolo performed the audio version of If the Seas Catch Fire I had to listen to it. I first fell in love with his voice when I listened to Slow Heat by Leta Blake and then The Master Will Appear, also by L.A. Witt.
This is a long book to listen to at 13+ hours so it took me a few days to be able to finish it. I really wanted to listen to it straight through as soon as I started it but real life just wouldn’t let this happen. To illustrate how much I liked this audiobook I have to tell you that I almost never re-read books, not even my most favorite ones, because I simply have too many books to read that I know will be good ones. When I first began enjoying audiobooks, only a year or so ago, I never dreamed that I’d want to listen to an audio book more than once. Well, I was wrong. While I haven’t listened a second time to the complete book, I’ve listened to portions of the three books I mentioned above more than a couple of times.
I’ve been a fan of L.A. Witt’s books for quite a while and have reviewed several of them here. Since I’ve only listened to this one (not read it) it’s hard for me to gauge if the book would have had the same impact on me if I’d read it instead of listened to it. In order for an audiobook to be good the written story also has to be good, but I don’t think it’s at all a stretch to say that Michael’s performance of this story had a huge impact on how much I enjoyed it
I won’t restate the blurb/synopsis, it’s accurate and good, but I will tell you that this story gave me chills in more than one way. It’s an intriguing, suspenseful tale with murder and mystery. It’s also an erotic love story about how two very unlikely characters come together and eventually admit that they care for each other after both of them thinking it was just a temporary arrangement for sex.
It’s a mafia story so expect a lot of violence and blood; but if you take the time to listen to it I can almost guarantee that Michael Ferraiuolo’s voice will captivate you just as much as it did me. Five stars for his performance isn’t nearly enough.
I borrowed this book through KU and it was then a free listen through Audible.

L.A. Witt is an abnormal M/M romance writer who has finally been released from the purgatorial corn maze of Omaha, Nebraska, and now spends her time on the southwestern coast of Spain. In between wondering how she didn’t lose her mind in Omaha, she explores the country with her husband, several clairvoyant hamsters, and an ever-growing herd of rabid plot bunnies. She also has substantially more time on her hands these days, as she has recruited a small army of mercenaries to search South America for her nemesis, romance author Lauren Gallagher, but don’t tell Lauren. And definitely don’t tell Lori A. Witt or Ann Gallagher. Neither of those twits can keep their mouths shut…
