City Boy By A.E. Wasp, Narrated By Michael Pauley
Genre: Contemporary Sports Romance, GLBTQ, MM, Hockey
Released: March 16, 2018
Publisher: Amy Wasp-Wimberger
Series: Hot Off the Ice, Book 1
Follow the money or follow your heart? Either way, you lose.
When a blown tire leads directly to mind-blowing sex with a white knight named Dakota, pro-hockey player Bryce Lowery discovers he is most definitely gay.
Being with Dakota opens up a whole new world. Bryce can’t imagine life without him. But he refuses to be Bryce’s dirty little secret. If he wants to keep Dakota, he’s either going to have to come out publicly or retire and walk away from millions of dollars.
Bryce Lowery feels like the answer to all of Dakota’s prayers. But is Dakota willing to leave the only life he’s ever known only to be thrust into the spotlight as the boyfriend of the first out gay hockey player? Would their relationship even survive it?
He’ll lose Bryce if he doesn’t, because Bryce will leave eventually. No one would turn down millions of dollars for a nobody with nothing.
City Boy is a first-time gay, fish-out-of-water, May/December love story with a happy ending. It features snarky siblings, a dirty-talking farmer, lots of food, and big choices. (No poultry was harmed in the making of this book.)

A great listen, a great story.
City Boy is the first book I’ve read/listened to by A.E. Wasp and I loved it. I have several of her books in my digital TBR (to be read) pile and now I’m anxious to read/listen to more. This is also the first audio book I’ve listened to by Michael Pauley and I enjoyed his narration very much although his voice is a bit too quick/breathy at times.
When I first started listening to audio books I thought that I’d only like listening to books that I’d already read; then I received ARC copies of a couple where I hadn’t read the books yet. Much to my surprise, I loved listening to the stories even without having read the books first. I was always afraid that I’d get distracted and lose my place in the audio. While this has happened a couple of times I discovered that it’s really not that difficult to rewind a bit and find my place again. I have not read City Boy, I’ve only listened to the audio book.
Bryce Lowery is a pro hockey player recovering from an injury. Dakota Ryan has lost everyone in his life that he’s loved and now he’s about to lose the home where he’s lived for several years. Dakota’s and Bryce’s lives intersect when a tire on Bryce’s SUV is blown and Dakota rescues him. Dakota is gay but Bryce has always thought of himself as straight so he’s slightly puzzled when he feels a pull of attraction to Dakota.
City Boy is a very hot first time gay story with characters that I found believable and felt a connection to. From the very beginning to the end I was engrossed in the story and listened to it in nearly one stretch. My only dilemma now is whether to read the other books in this series or wait until the audio book comes out.
