Synopsis

Chosen as the Guardian of her Montana Shiftertown, wolf Shifter Rae Lyall is facing opposition – for no woman has ever been selected for this powerful position. Still adjusting to the new authority thrust upon her, Rae travels to train with Zander Moncrieff, a Shifter healer, tasked with teaching her about her new role and its responsibilities.

A polar bear Shifter, Zander wears no collar and follows no rules but his own. Rae finds him arrogant and demanding, yet compelling and intriguing. Zander has no wish to mate, but the sassy Guardian is drawing him out of his shell, stirring feelings long suppressed. And when a new threat looms over Rae’s home, she and Zander must race to the rescue, forced closer to danger and to each other.

Crazy polar bear and wily black wolf for the win!

One of the things I love about this series is the uniqueness of each of the stories. Some pair humans with shifters, some shifters of differing breeds and some the fae with shifters. The characters come from different backgrounds with different challenges surrounding them yet each is united in seeing the goal of shifters unbound. Guardian’s Mate is the tale of two shifters of differing breeds with the commonality of being Goddess touched. With challenges that seem beyond their abilities these two struggle on against insurmountable odds.

Like many series the current hero and/or heroine is drawn from secondary characters in previous books. Zander has made his cameo appearances in several of the previous books in the Shifters Unbound series. He can be totally antisocial. For all appearances he’s got just a few screws loose. But such seems to be the case for those that are goddess touched. In Zander’s case he has been touched with the gift of healing and the gift comes with its major drawbacks. When you are compelled to heal the sick and injured and you take on their pain and emotions you’re bound to have some resulting issues. Is it any wonder the poor polar bear values his solitude? Then one small bundle of trouble is dropped into his peace and quiet in the form of Rae, the newest guardian selected by the Goddess and Zander has been tasked with training her.

Wolf shifter, Rae Lyall never envisioned being selected by the Goddess as their shiftertown’s newest guardian. If it came as a shock to her, it’s come as even more of a shock to her shiftertown and the network of alphas and guardians. A shock that has the others unwilling to accept that her selection could in anyway be legit. With no other choice Rae’s adoptive father is forced to drop her off with the crazy polar bear shifter for training as well as protection from those who choose not to accept her. With Rae’s lack of potential mates perhaps he entertains hopes that the two Goddess touched will be fated mates as well. Only time and the crucible of danger will tell.

If you like books that keep you dancing on the edge with action, adventure, danger and suspense with plenty of comic relief you’re going to love Guardian’s Mate and the Shifters Unbound series. I know I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
